Self-directed investors manage their own money, with their own broker. Many find that books and videos only go so far, and that talking concepts through with an experienced educator helps them understand what they are reading.

About Alpesh Patel OBE

Alpesh is a Financial Times author, a former Visiting Fellow at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and has appeared on Bloomberg, CNBC, Sky News, BBC World News and CNN. He has mentored more than 400 private investors one-to-one and founded the Campaign for a Million to teach a million people about investing.

What 1-to-1 education covers

  • How markets work: shares, funds, bonds and how prices are formed.
  • Research methods: reading company accounts, factsheets and key ratios.
  • Risk: diversification, position sizing and the different types of investment risk.
  • Discipline: keeping records, writing down your reasons and reviewing your own decisions.

What it is not

The sessions are education. Alpesh does not manage money for clients and is not an IFA, broker or fund manager. Sessions do not provide personal recommendations, and you make your own decisions.
